Entitled Work Beyond Borders, the 2010 IBM Chief Human Resources Officers Study says the three main concerns of CHROs globally are

  • Cultivating creative leaders — who can more nimbly lead in complex, global environments
  • Mobilizing for greater speed and flexibility — producing significantly greater capability to adjust underlying costs and faster ways to allocate talent
  • Capitalizing on collective intelligence — through much more effective collaboration across increasingly global teams.

The Difference Between CEO's To-Day And Future Corporate Leaders - Social Responsibility Is Essential - SVW

The students were asked many of the same questions as the CEOs. This made it easier to look for commonalities and differences between these two generations - one at the top of their careers, the other about to start out on theirs. The students are from a much different world than the CEOs. These students have no nostalgia for a simpler era, because they never knew one. They grew up in a complex world. They intuitively understand the tenets of globalization.

Capitalising on Complexity: Creative Leadership is The Way To Go - 2010 IBM's Global CEO's Study

At last, creativity gets the recognition it should. This report is not more about innovation which I have argued is dead as a concept. Instead it points out very clearly CEOs now realise that creativity trumps other leadership characteristics. Creative leaders are comfortable with ambiguity and experimentation. To connect with and inspire a new generation, they lead and interact in entirely new ways.

The Most Important Leadership Quality for CEOs? Creativity | Fast Company

For CEOs, creativity is now the most important leadership quality for success in business, outweighing even integrity and global thinking, according to a new study by IBM. The study is the largest known sample of one-on-one CEO interviews, with over 1,500 corporate heads and public sector leaders across 60 nations and 33 industries polled on what drives them in managing their companies in today's world. Fast Company's annual list of the 100 Most Creative People in Business just took on a whole new depth. And this year's list will be revealed later this month.
