You are what you curate: Why Pinterest is the hot tip in 2012 in Silicon Valley

The new hot social thing on the web these days is a Palo Alto, Calif.–based company started by Ben Silbermann, Paul Sciarra and Evan Sharp. (I incorrectly described this group as ex-Facebookers. My apologies for the error.) It is called Pinterest and it is about the concept of curation — a much abused phrase in Silicon Valley. Essentially it allows you to create visual collections of things that you like and find on the web. It is especially popular with young women. Some smart folks such as serial entrepreneur Elad Gill have started talking about “social content curation” and point to the evolution of online content. They even have a graph to show it all. Infographics - Your Data, Visualized - Visual.ly

Leading Transformation and Captivating Communities - Change This - Brian Solis

“Social media is not the catalyst for change, but merely one of its agents. We must remember that Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, and the like are the networks that facilitate an uprising. However, it is repression, angst, injustice, inequality, vision, aspiration and hope that serve as the true stimulus for insurrection and progress. Technology plays a part in transformation and it is up to you to learn how social, mobile, real-time, and all other emerging trends are affecting your industries, communities, or markets.

What we learn as a result however is that these new tools can bring people together and unite them under a common front or concerted mission. At the center of any revolution is the burning desire to bring about change. But it always comes down to people, shared experiences, and a common ambition. And it is people who need one another for leadership, support, and inspiration. What’s missing from the equation is your vision and leadership.”

The PersonalBrain - A Knowledge Management Software Tool

There is a plethora of Mindmapping software tools out there but PersonalBrain, using the metaphor of the working brain connecting neurons (in this context - parent thoughts) to a series of child thoughts (thoughts associated with the parent thought) offers a very simple moving functionality that allows the user to move from parent thought to parent thought in the process making connections a static mind map isn't able to do.
