Management Must be Reinvented - Gary Hamel

It is time for change - there will be risks, these need to be managed...

Hi Grant,

I found Gary Hamel’s talk on management innovation fascinating. In my language he is talking about a paradigm shift from domination/control relating to partnership/respect relating. I think that partnership relating is the core operating value of a healthy society, and there is indeed a major cultural shift going on. Sherry and Paul Ray identified "cultural creatives" nearly a decade ago, and for younger people who have grown up with mobile phones and iPods friendly cooperation as their normal way of operating.

For some people, of course, the perceived advantage of large militaristic hierarchical organisation structures is that they support the accrual of enormous wealth of the top - provided it doesn't topple over.

So there is a generation gap which is a gap in operating styles and core values.

Cheers,

Andrew
