Every now and again, you come across a creative use of PowerPoint and this happens to be one of those! Further the presentation, loaded onto You Tube for public consummation by its unknown designers, was used very effectively at the opening of a conference presentation on the future of knowledge management by Chris Fletcher, Director, Knowledge Management, Deloitte Asia and the Middle East that I attended recently in Sydney.
Whether you agree with the content expressed in the presentation or not, whether you have observed the grammatical errors contained on the slides or not, the content is thought provoking and the way Chris used it as a context setter, demonstrates the enormous potentiality of Web 2.0.
Fletcher's premise is that the field of conventional knowledge management is being turned inside out. He posits that the emerging trend of social capital's input into the development of knowledge is where value creation is now found. Knowledge management is no longer about content and collection. It's about context and connection. This emergence is best demonstrated in the new world of Web 2.0 tools such as blogs, wiki's and You Tube. In Fletcher's world, the future of knowledge is in the networked environment where an iterative loop moves context and connection to collaboration and back again.
The value in this new paradigm of knowledge management lies not in the delivery of knowledge but in the alchemy of knowledge, its ability to connect thoughts rapidly over distances and entities that weren't previously connected. <p>
Web 2.0 allows me to offer you the opportunity to watch the You Tube presentation and download Fletcher's full PowerPoint presentation all for free! That is value!! You can contact Chris Fletcher directly at chfletcher@deloitte.com.au and he has a great blog, Adventures in Knowledge
